The best thing about going on a low carb diet like the Atkins, keto or even the paleo diet that we can have so many chicken wings as we like without feeling the slightest guilt about it.

Not like anyone would feel the slightest remorse about eating chicken wings day in and day out but only saying it out loud puts a wide grin on some faces. Who would have guessed a couple of years ago that the buffalo wings could be the pillars of a diet?

Well, this may be a stretch but the classical fried chicken wings recipe consists nothing more but fried chicken soaked in cayenne sauce and butter that are all low on carbs.

Naturally the sauce can be altered in many ways like vinegar, garlic or black pepper being the most common additions going as far as coating the wings in honey. There isn’t anything against a sweet and sour honey and mustard rub but that would go against any low carb regiments and why get extra calories onto us when it’s not a must.

Not like chicken wings were a must at all for those who can’t even stand the look of them. Interestingly before the 70’ chicken wings enjoyed the same reputation as chicken feet does now. An unnecessary piece of meat that used for making stock or used as fodder for anything that took it.

Fast forward today and there are chicken wings shortages around the US every now and then because people just can’t have enough of them. We are still pretty far away of importing chicken wings from all over the world to meet the demand like China does with the chicken feet but it seems that everything is just a state of mind.

Or rather a state of sauce as the main gravitating power towards chicken wings is the sauce that is dipped in. Although chicken wings can be breaded then fried, prepared as a stew or cooked into soups as well.

Baking the chicken wings in the oven is also a fancy oil free method to prepare them with the only downside of having to wait for them for about 50 minutes or so to get them baked properly while in a frying pan or deep fryer a batch takes about 10 minutes.

Sauces however easy to prepare is not always an option due to various food intolerance, either. Not like chicken wings can’t be eaten without sauces, anyway.

Right after taking the wings out of the hot oil and draining them, we can start the seasoning process in a biggish bowl. Sprinkle over any kind of seasoning preferred while moving them around until all the parts are evenly covered.

The hot cayenne pepper can be simply substituted with not hot paprika that is much more child friendly than hot sauces while still provides the same sort of BBQ flavor to the dish.

Plain old chicken wings. Nothing more, nothing less. The paprika is a great idea though!
