Lodge Manufacturing Company is a family-owned business that has been in operation for over 100 years, founded in 1896 in South Pittsburg, Tennessee, USA. They are one of the oldest and most renowned manufacturers of cast iron cookware in the United States. The company is best known for its cast iron skillets, griddles, Dutch ovens, and various other cast iron kitchenware products.

Lodge’s cast iron cookware is celebrated for its durability, heat retention, and versatility. They use a process called “seasoning” to create a natural non-stick surface on their cast iron products, which improves with use over time. Lodge cookware is suitable for various cooking methods, including stovetop, oven, grill, and campfire cooking.

The company has expanded its product line over the years, offering enamel-coated cast iron cookware, carbon steel cookware, and accessories related to cast iron care and maintenance.

Lodge Manufacturing Company has gained a strong reputation among home cooks, professional chefs, and outdoor enthusiasts for producing high-quality and reliable cast iron cookware.

Cast iron excels in heat retention, ensuring even cooking temperatures and making it ideal for various cooking methods. When properly seasoned, it develops a natural non-stick surface, reducing the need for excessive oil or cooking sprays. Its versatility allows for a wide range of cooking tasks, and its durability and longevity make it a worthy investment for generations to come. Additionally, cooking with cast iron can add small amounts of iron to food, making it beneficial for those with iron deficiencies.

Cast iron cookware can be used on different heat sources, including stovetops, ovens, grills, and open flames, providing great flexibility in the kitchen. Being made from natural materials and recyclable, it is an eco-friendly choice, and its relative affordability, considering its longevity, makes it cost-effective over time.

To care for cast iron cookware, regular cleaning with hot water and minimal soap is essential. Thorough drying is crucial to prevent rusting, and regular re-seasoning helps maintain its non-stick properties. Cooking with cast iron involves preheating the pan, using the right oil, and adjusting the heat to medium or medium-low for even cooking. Proper use of oven mitts, pot holders, and soft utensils preserves the seasoning, while gradual cooling prevents warping.

Benefits of Cast Iron Cookware

  • Excellent Heat Retention
Cast iron is known for its exceptional heat retention properties. It absorbs heat and retains it for extended periods, allowing for consistent cooking temperatures. This makes it ideal for searing, frying, roasting, and baking.
  • Natural Non-Stick Surface
When properly seasoned (coated with oil and heated), cast iron develops a natural non-stick surface. This makes it easier to cook foods without them sticking to the pan, reducing the need for excessive oil or cooking sprays.
  • Versatility
Cast iron cookware can be used for a wide range of cooking methods, including frying, sautéing, baking, roasting, braising, and even grilling. It can transition seamlessly from stovetop to oven, making it a versatile tool in the kitchen.
  • Durability and Longevity
Cast iron is incredibly durable and can last for generations if well-maintained. Unlike many other types of cookware, it doesn’t easily warp or dent, making it suitable for use on various heat sources, including stovetops, ovens, grills, and even campfires.
  • Health Benefits
Cooking with cast iron can add small amounts of iron to the food, which may be beneficial for individuals with iron deficiencies. However, it is not a significant source of iron, so it should not be relied upon solely for meeting dietary needs.
  • Can Be Used on Different Heat Sources
Cast iron cookware is versatile enough to be used on various heat sources, including gas, electric, induction, stovetop, oven, grill, and even open flames.
  • Natural and Eco-Friendly
Cast iron is made from natural materials and is recyclable. Additionally, its long lifespan and durability reduce the need for frequent replacement, making it an eco-friendly choice.
  • Affordable
While high-quality cast iron cookware can have an upfront cost, its durability and longevity make it a cost-effective investment over time.
